Belle at Lumiere Cinemas

Belle

121 mins | Rated PG (Contains Violence)

Directed by Mamoru Hosoda

Starring Shôta Sometani, Ryô Narita, Tina Tamashiro, Kaho Nakamura, Ikura , Ryôko Moriyama

( Note : We are playing the subtitled version - Japanese with English subs )-Suzu is a shy, everyday high school student living in a rural village. For years, she has only been a shadow of herself. But when she enters "U", a massive virtual world, she escapes into her online persona as Belle, a gorgeous and globally-beloved singer. One day, her concert is interrupted by a monstrous creature chased by vigilantes. As their hunt escalates, Suzu embarks on an emotional and epic quest to uncover the identity of this mysterious "beast" and to discover her true self in a world where you can be anyone...

Mamoru Hosoda’s latest is his best since Wolf Children, and possibly his greatest yet. A visual and emotional masterpiece of the anime form, this reimagining of Beauty and the Beast for the Internet age has everything you could possibly expect from a Studio Chizu production and more. Stunning animation that melds 2D and 3D, a timely story that depicts online culture and social media toxicity with frightening accuracy, beautiful and catchy original songs that transcend the language barrier, and a gorgeously realised computer world that feels like a true culmination of Hosoda’s prior work on Digimon and Summer Wars. It’s rare for a movie to make me shed a tear, but this one had me full-on sobbing in the cinema…three times! An absolute must-see. 10/10! ( Alternative Lens)

Intricately animated and brilliantly told, Belle is a gorgeous spectacle of an animated feature – after only three years after the Oscar-nominated Mirai, Hosoda delivers his most beautiful film to date....
